INTRODUCTION IEP

The Institution of Engineers Pakistan (IEP) was established on 7th May, 1948 with the blessing of Father of the Nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It is the premier national body of engineers for the advancement of engineering profession. The Institution has its headquarters at Lahore and Local Centers in all major cities of Pakistan as well in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain & USA. IEP has signed technical collaboration agreements with 39 National Professional Engineering organizations throughout the world. IEP is member of six International / Regional engineering bodies and it also has the honor to represent Pakistan in these forums. Major role of IEP is the advancement of engineering profession by organizing conferences, seminars, workshops, technical lectures on various topics of engineering and professional and technical issues. It also includes visits to major construction sites and factories of special interests.

INTRODUCTION OF UET LAHORE

University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, is one of the oldest engineering institutions in the country. The institution was established in 1921 as ‘Mughalpura Technical College’ and later it was renamed as ‘Maclagan Engineering College’ in 1923. The University of Engineering and Technology received its charter as a University in 1961. To meet the growing demands for the Engineering graduates and allied disciplines in the country, the university had expended to various programs in the new millennium. The Department of Chemical Engineering was established in 1962.The department has qualified faculty with multidisciplinary research interests. The department offers specialization in process engineering, energy engineering and biochemical engineering at the postgraduate level. Centre for Energy Research and Development (CERAD) was established to evolve efficient, innovative and cost effective solutions of Punjab province. The Centre is carrying out research on various types of renewable energies. The centre is also a platform for technical evaluation of various energy systems compatible with our environment, besides validation of various technologies currently in vogue.

INTRODUCTION OF CERAD

Pakistan is in the serious grip of energy crisis in all the segments of economy and other sectors. Self-sufficiency in energy is the assurance to excel any country’s economy so keeping in view the energy shortage problems, Punjab Government has taken an initiative in the form of Center for energy research and development (CERAD) as a research based project for a duration of 2 years with a budget of 292.000 M rupees to explore and utilize the renewable energy resources in Punjab.
The objective behind setting up the Centre for energy research and development is to evolve efficient, innovative and cost effective solutions of Punjab province. The Centre is carrying out research on various types of renewable energies. The Centre is also a platform for technical evaluation of various energy systems compatible with our environment, besides validation of various technologies currently in vogue. The Centre is also contributing towards the training of postgraduate students and currently 30 students are enrolled in M.Sc Energy engineering program.
